There is something in the hunter’s smile and countenance, in relation to the black creature she has hung up, that recalls the vitriol whites so often hurl at Black activists; or, if not vitriol, then a disdain that is suffused with superiority and self-satisfaction. One hypothesis is that some whites are unconsciously compelled by a desire to rein in whatever non-white beings live openly unfettered.
This is a powerful metaphor. The smile on the face of the hunter – who likely didn’t do much actual “hunting” is chilling.
